First-Time Home Buyer Rebate: Ontario provides a land transfer tax rebate of up to $4,000 for eligible first-time buyers. The rebate equals the lesser of the total LTT paid or $4,000.

Ottawa vs Toronto: Toronto buyers pay both the provincial Ontario LTT AND a Municipal Land Transfer Tax (MLTT) of equal amount, effectively doubling their land transfer tax. Ottawa buyers pay only the provincial LTT, saving thousands on every purchase.
